Within 1 day the car looked like **** took it back, Looked like **** again at pick up and even worse. Owner never returned my phone calls or emails. 1 week after car is peeling paint, wet sand marks clearly visible, yellow peel and running paint, rust, deep scratches, never removed any parts A TOTAL MESS!

What gives CarShield’s 3M ScotchGuard Paint Protection Film a clear advantage over “auto bras” and similar paint protection products? Just ask Popular Mechanics Magazine who recently awarded 3M its prestigious Editor’s Choice Award for product excellence. CarShield’s 3M Scotchguard paint protection film is made of clear high-gloss thermoplastic urethane, a tough, conformable plastic material used for its long-term durability. In fact, this film is so durable it is routinely used by the United States Military and it’s the only officially licensed paint protection film of NASCAR. As part of an on-going commitment to quality, 3M routinely conducts testing of its Scotchgard paint protection film using a gravelometer, a test unit designed to reproduce the effect of gravel striking exposed painted or coated surfaces of an automobile. This testing is based on the SAE J400 standard required by vehicle manufacturers’ material specifications. One pint of gravel (250-300 stones) is sprayed at a painted surface protected with paint protection film at a velocity of 30-60 mph. CarShield and 3M ScotchGard… two trusted names that deliver results you can count on.

FAQ

Can I install CarShield™ Paint Protection Film myself?

We strongly recommend that CarShield™ Paint Protection Film be installed by one of our fully trained, professional applicator. Our installers are trained in applying the film around compound curves, challenging grillwork, wheel openings, bumpers and all other areas on today’s vehicles.

Can CarShield™ Paint Protection Film be applied over a vehicle that has had the paint touched up?

Yes, however If you have touched up scratches or chips with “touch-up” paint and then apply paint protection film over it, the film will protect that area until it is removed. If the paint protection film is removed, it is possible that the “touch-up” paint could peel off.

Can you paint or apply a clearcoat over the CarShield™ Paint Protection Film?

No, this is not recommended and is at your own risk. The 3M film is supplied with an OEM-approved clearcoat which is not designed to be painted or clearcoated.

Can I see a line where CarShield™ Paint Protection Film?

A line is slightly visible where the film stops, but the only alternatives to that line are a bug shield, a bra, or rock chips.

Can I cover the whole vehicle with CarShield™ Paint Protection Film?

It is possible, but the application would be difficult and expensive. This product is really intended for the most vulnerable areas of the vehicle.

Can CarShield™ Paint Protection Film be applied over graphics?

The clear film will not interfere with vinyl or painted graphics. However, if the CarShield™ Paint Protection Film is removed, damage may occur to the underlying graphic during the removal process.

Does CarShield ™ Paint Protection Film stick to plastic?

Yes, CarShield™ will stick to virtually any smooth surface.

Does CarShield™ Paint Protection Film resist yellowing?

Yes, it resists yellowing because the film is constructed of thermoplastic urethane, a tough, conformable material that is covered by a clear coat layer. The film and clear coat layers contain UV protectants to counteract harmful ultraviolet rays that can cause yellowing.

Will my paint fade differently under the areas protected by CarShield™ than it does on the rest of the car?
No, the paint protection film contain an inhibitor which prevents it from reacting to the sun’s UV rays, but this does not prevent the UV rays from passing through the film to the vehicles paint.

How is CarShield™ Paint Protection Film maintained?

Once applied, refrain from washing the vehicle in an automated car wash for 24 hours. Washing after that time presents no problem, and no special care need be taken for the film.

Can I use wax over CarShield™ Paint Protection Film?

Yes. When waxing the vehicle, some wax may build up along the film edges. This can easily be removed when dry with a soft brush such as an old toothbrush. Do not use any waxes containing dyes or waxes that are not recommended for urethanes. Abrasive polishes and/or rubbing compounds are not to be used.

Will CarShield™ Paint Protection Film harm the painted surface if the film is removed?

If the film is properly applied to a fully cured painted vehicle, it can be removed, usually in one piece, without damaging paint surfaces beneath the film.

How is CarShield™ Paint Protection Film removed?

If desired, film can be removed at any time by picking up a corner of the film and pulling the film off the vehicle surface at a 90-degree angle. If the film has been present a long time, or if the film and vehicle are cold, a heat gun or hair dryer may be used to soften the adhesive, allowing easier removal. If any adhesive remains on the vehicle after removal of the film, it can be removed by using 3M™ General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner (3M Part #08984), according to the package directions.
